Full Dentures
WELCOME TO KARLA R MCDONALD DDS
Full Dentures replace all the natural teeth on your top and bottom arches that you lost due to dental disease or trauma. Dentures are removable, but you should plan to wear them all day to prevent facial sagging.
Remember that the longer you keep your dentures out, the harder it is to become accustomed to wearing them. The only time Dr. Karla McDonald recommends that patients take their full set of dentures out is before they go to bed each night.
What Are Full Dentures?
Also called complete dentures, full dentures consist of two separate retainer-like devices with artificial teeth attached to them. Your top row of dentures requires support from your palate, which is the roof of your mouth. When you put your upper dentures in for the day, your palate’s suctioning power helps keep them in place.
The lower dentures sometimes rely on jawbone ridges for support. You may also need to use a dental adhesive for both your upper and lower dentures to ensure they do not slide out of your mouth.
Steps Involved in Getting New Dentures
Dr. Karla McDonald starts the process by taking photos and impressions of your upper and lower jaws. She sends the results she obtained to our laboratory, where technicians create your customized set of dentures. We can provide you with a set of temporary non-customized dentures to wear in the meantime.
When your new dentures are ready, a member of our staff will contact you to schedule a fitting. Dr. McDonald checks the fit by looking for areas that cause excess pressure in your mouth and adjusts the dentures accordingly.
